Answer #1

1.a. Muscle contraction occurs when cytosolic calcium levels rise due to the opening of calcium channels in the muscle cell membrane. False Because no doubt that it occurs due to increase in calcium levels which come from the opening in membrane of sarcoplasmic reticulum ( endoplasmic reticulum of muscle cells which is the store house of calcium ions) not due to opening of muscle cell membrane.

b. The transverse tubules in muscle cells are an extension of plasma membrane, with which they are continuous. True As Transverse tubules (T-tubules) are extensions of the cell membrane or plasma membrane that penetrate into the center of skeletal and cardiac muscle cells.

During muscle contraction, the Z discs move closer together as the myosin heads move toward the plus ends of the actin filaments. The changes in voltage across the plasma membrane that occur when a muscle cell receives a signal from the nervous system causes Ca2+ to flow into the sarcoplasmic reticulum, triggering a muscle contraction.
