Answer #1

Answer:

Border Gateway protocol is a routing protocol used to transfer data among different host gateways, the Internet or autonomous systems. BGP is a Path Vector Protocol (PVP), which maintains paths to different hosts, networks and gateway routers and uses this information to determine the routing decision at real time.

BGP, as an example, is used when ISP need to establish routing with other ISP's. BGP may also be used for routing within an autonomous system termed as iBGP(internal Border Gateway protocol). Internet applications also use BGP or referred as Exterior Border Gateway protocol.

Advantages:

BGP is Inter domain routing protocol

BGP uses Best path algorithm

BGP uses path vector protocol that helps maintain path information and is dynamically updated

BGP provides adequate support to VPN's

BGP increases network stability

BGP allows to specify any IP address as the next-hop for an IP prefix, this can be used to stop or check network attacks
