What is Border Gateway protocol ? When should it be used and what are its advantages and disadvantages compared to other routing protocols?
Answer:
Border Gateway protocol is a routing protocol used to transfer data among different host gateways, the Internet or autonomous systems. BGP is a Path Vector Protocol (PVP), which maintains paths to different hosts, networks and gateway routers and uses this information to determine the routing decision at real time.
BGP, as an example, is used when ISP need to establish routing with other ISP's. BGP may also be used for routing within an autonomous system termed as iBGP(internal Border Gateway protocol). Internet applications also use BGP or referred as Exterior Border Gateway protocol.
Advantages:
BGP is Inter domain routing protocol
BGP uses Best path algorithm
BGP uses path vector protocol that helps maintain path information and is dynamically updated
BGP provides adequate support to VPN's
BGP increases network stability
BGP allows to specify any IP address as the next-hop for an IP prefix, this can be used to stop or check network attacks

interior gateway protocol periodically sends routing information (TCO 4) The to just its neighboring routers. Open Shortest Path First (OSPF) Routing Information Protocol (RIP) Border Gateway Protocol (BGP) Reverse Path Forwarding (RPF) none of the above
What is the Border Gateway Protocol (BGP)? Why is it needed? Explain how it works.
Using Cisco Packet Tracer (PT) create a topology with EIGRP (Enhanced Interior Gateway Routing Protocol) as routing protocols, using 4 switches. Show steps.
5. BGP (Border Gateway Protocol) routers advertise routes between Autonomous Systems. Autonomous Systems are numbered and the table entries will provide the paths from AS to AS based on a longest prefix match of the incoming packet. Based on the following table, decide which AS path the following packets will take Prefix Origin AS AS Path 128.32.0.0/16 28.0.0.0/8 128.32.168.0 /24 128.1.1.4 /32 128.32.5.0 /24 123 123 15 10 14 56 12.3 34 101 203 123 50 15 123 23 10...
Assignment: Which of the following statements accurately describe a link-state routing protocol? (Choose 3) A. The link state database is used to calculate the paths with the highest bandwidths on the network. B. Link-state routing protocols respond quickly to network changes. C. In Link-state routing protocols, each router periodically sends messages to the network, listing the routers to which it is directly connected and also information about whether the link to each router is active. D. Link-state routing protocols send...
Question 12 pts (TCO 4) What is the difference between IPv6 routing table entries compared to IPv4 routing table entries? Select an answer: IPv6 routing tables include local route entries which IPv4 routing tables do not. Unlike IPv6, IPv4 can only be used in interior gateway routing protocol. IPv6 is always classless unlike IPv4. Both answers A and B are correct. Both answers A and C are correct.
