With traditional telephone lines we paid for a line with dial-tone and accepted the given quality unless there were severe issues. With VoIP why do we have to work harder to ensure the equivalent quality or better of the traditional phone line?

Explanation:

We have seen over the time that traditional telephones lines are reliable than VoIP because telephone line are much clear in terms of voice quality. The main reason behind lower quality of voice over VoIP is stability of network, wherever the best network is available VoIP works better than traditional phone.  VoIP also not work best where the network equipment are of lower quality because audio waves created by voice are translated into packets and transferred to over to business IP network and then to Internet thus you need higher quality network equipment, in simple words you need to spend more money on these network equipment to get better quality of VoIP than telephones lines. Additionally you need to provide better and stable network to provide better quality VoIP.
