Tetratogen are the substances or agents that have adverse effects on development of embryo and fetus. The substances can leads to defects in embryo and effect the fetus development

They are divided into physical agents, chemical agents and metabolic agents

Example

1. Metals - Mercury, potassium and iodine

2. Chemicals - Formaldehyde and insecticides

3. Radiation - X ray radiation

4.Drugs - Benazepril

5.Alcohols

6. Hormones - Androgen

These all are the compounds that effect the development of fetus during pregnancy and hence they are termed as tetratogen.
