Meaning of Human Resource Management

Human Resource Management or (HRM) is a system within an organization which helps to acquires, develop and retain employees within the organization, looking after their benefits and compensation and getting the best out of the employees to reach the optimum level of productivity.

Evolution of Human Resource Management over the Years

Human resource management previously used to be looked as a small function since most companies had a top down approach. In the era of industrial revolution, people were looked at more as costs to a firm than actual assets which gave way to the problem of people leaving an organization and were often harassed at workplace, made to work beyond working hours for individuals respectively.

On the other hand, due to rapid growth and globalization, the HR function has rapidly evolved and helps in getting the best person on the job through various recruitment measures. Furthermore, it helps direction the career of an individual thus, allowing for easier growth and overall success of a firm.

Also, it now is used to set out norms and help employees in need and maintain a culture that helps in embracing everyone with different cultural and personal dimensions in the organization. It helps in cooling of any tensions within the organization and aims at reducing the impact on the organization.

HR has more so evolved into a strategizing unit that has over the years helped companies in expanding themselves and setting goals that have been achieved well

Recruitment and Selection:-

This is the basic function of Human Resource Management, and is extremely important for any organization as it helps getting the best man on the job for the task. Further the process eliminates the risk of employing a misfit to the job and helps in setting a clear direction towards which an organization tends to move. The selection and recruitment process, once streamlined prevent any personal bias since each candidate goes through rigorous rounds with different people before final selection respectively.

Career Prospects:-

With rapid globalization coming into play, and cultures ever expanding the need for people who are good with the Human Resource Management selection and recruitment process is extremely important.

Over a period of time, the rise in salaries of the same reflect on the discussion, Recruitment and Selection is regarded as one of the backbones of the industry, that helps in improving the overall performance of the organization, Having skills that help one in the process are extremely relevant to the career.

Most companies have turned global and look to expand business offshores and will always have requirement of people who know how to deal with local people and know their mindsets and can take a call on hiring employees respectively.

In reality anyone who knows how to look through people and assess how good they are their skills and their ability to communicate as per the requirement of the job posting will be a good fit in the industry respectively.

Over a period of time when people acquire more skills in this, they can then move to higher roles which provide immense opportunity for growth and are that of making strategies respectively.

With Globalization and rapid growth therefore, the opportunities available to those engaged in recruitment and selection are immense and can largely contribute to individual growth respectively.
