Answer #1

Toys R Us failed because of the following reasons:

(1) Toys R Us never focused on necessary change to grow their business. Stores were too huge, ineffectively marketed, and customer support was practically non-existent.

(2) Toys R Us neglected to make convincing explanations behind clients to visit the store, either because of a better store experience or through partnership to sell well known brands or items.

(3) Toys R Us was attempting to win on convenience and price, but it wasn't convenient and the prices weren't so incredible.

(4) Gradually the shopping experience has moved online, and Toys R Us hasn’t been the strongest in that area. On the other hand competitors targeted the online business very strongly.

(5) Toys are not anymore top selling product. The sales of toys are declining in general.

Toy sellers also face pressure from the competition from both online outlets and big-box stores.

(6) In a world where kids can use a mobile app, Toys R Us’ response was to create one new aisle. However, it didn’t actually adapt to new technologies, it just included them as part of the regular store.

Toys R US management issues:

(1) Toys R Us has failed to innovate its business model, failed to incorporate technology or adapt to changing consumer behavior.

(2) Toys R Us's debts were too much to handle the situation. It was saddled with heavy debt acquired when Bain Capital and other firms took the company private in 2005.

Toys R US organizational structure issues:

(1) The Toys R Us failed because of their organization structural problems of a heavily debt leveraged business model. Because of the heavy debit and management issues organizational structure of Toys R US completely collapsed.

(2) Because of the organizational structure, Toys R US could not make their stores a place of joy for the kids, hence without kids coming in the store, it was impossible to run the toys business.
