Answer #1

Solution) L = 1.5 m

f = ?

V = (D/T)

But (1/T) = f

V = Df

V = 1531 m/s in sea water

D = 2L = 2×1.5 = 3 m

f = (V)/(D)

f = (1531)/(3)

f = 510.3 Hz

    A whale emits of sound of 50Hz to tell a wayward calf to catch up to the pod. The whale is moving due East at 5 m/s while the calf (1.2 Km away) is moving due West at 4 m/s. The speed of sound in water is 1500 m/s and the speed of sound in air is 340 m/s. a) How long does it take the sound to reach the calf? What is the frequency of the sound received by...

    Two in-phase loudspeakers are 3.00 m apart. They emit sound with a frequency of 490 Hz. A microphone is placed half-way between the speakers and then moved along the line joining the two speakers until the first point of constructive interference is found. At what distance from that midpoint is that first point? The speed of sound in air is 343 m/s. Please work with this example. Two loudspeakers, 1.3 m apart, emit sound waves with the same frequency along the positive x-axis. Victor, standing on the axis to the right of the speakers, hears no sound. As the frequency is slowly tripled, Victor hears the sound go through the sequence loud-soft-loud-soft-loud before becoming quiet again. What was the original sound frequency? Assume room temperature of 20∘C.

    A physics student holds a small battery-operated device used for tuning instruments that emit the frequency of middle C (262 Hz) while walking with a constant speed of 4.33 m/s toward a building which presents a hard smooth surface and hence reflects sound well. (Use 343 m/s as the speed of sound in air.) (a) Determine the beat frequency the student observes between the device and its echo. Express your answer to three significant figures. Dolphins emit sound bursts that range in frequency from 1 Hz to 120 kHz. Say that a dolphin is using a sound burst consisting of these frequencies as a form of sonar, like bats. Let the burst last for a time interval of 10 ms, after which it listens for 100 ms. Say that the logarithmic intensity (loudness) of the dolphin's sound is 50 dB as measured at 1 m away. Dolphins can hear sounds that are 2 dB below...

    Two speakers spaced a distance 1.8 m apart emit coherent sound waves at a frequency of 547 Hz in all directions. The waves start out in phase with each other. A listener walks in a circle of radius one meter centered on the midpoint of the two speakers. At how many points does the listener observe destructive interference? The listener and the speakers are all in the same horizontal plane and the speed of sound is 340 m/s.
