1. You are employed to improve an interactive product such as a smartphone app. Explain the basic goal of improving the product by considering what this means in your circumstances. Gather initial information by watching the participant(s) to understand issues that might create challenges for you doing this assignment and get information that might enable you to refine your goals.

2- Explain how you would use each of the three data gathering techniques: interviews, questionnaire, and observation in your data gathering program. Explain how your plans take account of triangulation. Develop first drafts of each. Do you need informed consent participants? If yes, create and use one.

3- plan your data gathering: decide what kind of interview you want to run and design a set of interview questions for your study. Decide how you will record the data, then acquire and test any equipment you might use. Develop a questionnaire for your data gathering program and design appropriate questions for it. Run a pilot study to check your questionnaire. Choose between or use both direct or indirect observation. Conduct the observation and record data.

4- Carry out your study. Remember to limit its scope and time. Reflect on your experience and suggest what you would do differently next time.

  • 2. I would use each of the data gathering techniques in the following way:

Interview: This technique will enable me to meet with the people face to face and ask them questions related to my research which is the best way because the person answering will be focusing totally on the question being answered. So, there will be minimal chances of noisy data.

Questionnaire: This technique will enable me to gather information from an audience which is physically unreachable by me. Also, a large number of users can fill up questionnaires with in minimal time. Now-a-days, using technologies like google forms, this method has become more efficient and most common among researchers.

Observation: This technique will be used only when the data is to be collected in simplest form and there are some direct conclusions which can be made out of data by observing the data carefully. This technique does not require any interaction with third person.

The use of all the three techniques will be very efficient and accurate because it will create a triangulation which means that the data which is missed by using one technique will be covered by the other and so on. E.g. By observation technique, only a few data can be collected which will be filled by questionnaire and interviews.
