A gas in a cylinder sealed with a piston having negligible friction has a pressure of 5 atm and a volume of 6 liters. The piston is pushed in order to compress the gas to 1/7 of its original volume. Assume that there is no change in the temperature of the gas.

A valve is opened to let enough gas escape until the pressure is reduced back to its original original value of 5 atm. it is 14.3 %

Then the valve is closed again. With the valve still closed, the piston in the cylinder is moved until the pressure of the remaining gas becomes 105 Pa.

What is the final volume of the remaining gas? V =

A cylinder of monatomic ideal gas is sealed in a cylinder by a piston. Initially, the gas occupies a volume of 2.50 L and the pressure is initially 125 kPa. The cylinder is placed in an oven that maintains the temperature at a constant value. 80.0 J of work is then done on the piston, compressing the gas (in other words, the gas does -80 J of work). The work is done very slowly so that the gas maintains a...

As shown in the figure, a sealed cylinder of ideal gas is divided into two parts by a piston that can move up and down without friction. A horizontal piston/cylinder arrangement is placed in a constant-T bath. The piston slides in the cylinder with negligible friction, and an external force holds it in place against an initial gas pressure of 16 bar. The initial gas volume is 0.04 m^3. The external force on the piston is reduced gradually, and the gas expands isothermally as its volume doubles. If the volume of the gas is related to its pressure so that the product PV^t is constant, what is...
