The launcher equipment group consists of three basic items such as thrust mount, umbilical boom and flame deflector. The .thrust mount restrains the missile for a certain period of time after the rocket motor is ignited. The umbilical boom provides structural support to the cables to the point where they connect the missile. The flame deflector is most frequently a large curved duct or a plate, which channels the rocket engine exhaust to a selected area away from the launch installations. The flame deflector is required to react to the full force of the rocket engine thrust and to withstand the effects of the associated high velocity, high temperature and high pressure exhaust. It is based on these high pressure, velocity and temperature that the launcher platform will have to be designed for the successful launching. When the missiles are fired from closed containers, with high thrust levels, the consequences are higher exhaust velocity, pressure and temperature and longer exhaust impingement.
