There are four general types of prison sentences. Please discuss the benefits and pitfalls of mandatory sentences. Are they necessary or should they be abolished as disparate?

Mandatory sentencing refers to sentences that are given to an offender without taking the circumstances into consideration. This means that the judge has no control over the sentence the judge is supposed to impose. It causes more trouble to the offender because someone would have committed that crime in order to protect oneself from an attacker. But in this instance, self-defense won’t be taken into consideration. The severity of the sentence would be vary static as the officer who pronounce the sentence won’t be able to modify the sentence as per officer’s own discretion. These sentences should be abolished as disparate because the officer should be able to pronounce the sentence after analyzing the circumstances surrounding the crime.
