The cheetah can maintain it's top speed for only about 20 s

The fastest land animal is the cheetah, which runs at a speed of up to 101 km/h. The second-fastest is the antelope, which runs at a speed of up to 88 km/h. (a). Suppose that a cheetah begins to chase an antelope. If the antelope has a head start of 40 m, how long does it take the cheetah to catch the antelope? How far will the cheetah have traveled by this time?

Answer #1

Vrel =101-88=13 km /hr

Time to catch if run at const speed

T = 0.04*3600/13 = 11.08 sec

Distance travel = VxT = 101*11.08*1000/3600 = 310.7 mtr

    The cheetah's top speed is 110 km/h (30.6 m/s). The gazelle's top speed is 75 km/h (20.8 m/s). The two are among the fastest land animals on Earth. However, the cheetah's hunting strategy has to be based on acceleration not on speed alone, because the cheetah must catch the gazelle within 15 s or risk brain damage from overheating. The cheetah can reach its top speed in 3 s. The gazelle’s acceleration is 5 m/s2. How close to the gazelle...

    A wildebeest calf is cruising at its top speed of v = 10 m/s when it passes over a sleeping cheetah. By the time the cheetah stands up and begins pursuit, the wildebeest is d = 7.0m ahead of the cheetah. If the cheetah is able to maintain a constant acceleration of a = 9.5 m/s2 until it catches the wilde-beast, then how much time t must pass before the cheetah catches up to the wildebeest? Only 30% of the gasoline goes into useful work by the force that keeps the car moving at constant speed despite friction. (The energy content of gasoline is 1.3 ✕ 108 J per gallon.) (a) What is the force exerted to keep the car moving at constant speed? N (b) If the required force is directly proportional to speed, how many...
