Answer #1

Answer :

Firstly, let us understand that the blood flow in the body is regulated "depending on it's needs" which is governed by nerves and hormonal signals sent through the pituitary gland of the brain.

It is beneficial to "rest" after consuming a heavy meal.

Explanation :

When a person consumes a heavy meal, after about 20-40 minutes most of the blood is directed towards the digestive system by means of vasodilation and this lasts for about 1.5-2 hours (the blood capillaries dilate to provide more surface area). Due to this the cardiac output is increased which means that - now there is increased load on the heart. If a person goes for exercise or intense physical activity, there is increased needs of blood flow towards the muscles to flush out the metabolic waste. This may further increase the load on the heart and it may lead to angina (chest pain) and may also lead to heart attack.

Therefore, a person shall at least give a gap of 2 hours between major meal consumption and exercise. A pre-workout "small portion snack" can be taken about 45 minutes - 1 hour before going for exercise.
