OSI model example This OSI Model is applied to real time example which helps to complete the complex task must be converted into small task so easy get completed by the specific protocol/service.

Firstly we have to consider the bottom up approach in which physical layer will come in picture which decide and work for Addressing: Mechanism for identifying senders and receivers

Then data link layer will handle flow and error control

  Error Control: There may be erroneous transmission due to several problems during communication. These are due to problem in communication circuits, physical medium, due to thermal noise and interference.

  Flow control: If there is a fast sender at one end sending data to a slow receiver, then there must be flow control mechanism to control the loss of data by slow receivers. There are several mechanisms used for flow control such as increasing buffer size at receivers, slow down the fast sender, and so on. Some process will not be in position to accept arbitrarily long messages..

Network layer will perform Routing. Select best path to send data.

Above all layers session layer, presentation layer and application layer handles encryption, compression and actual process on applications and Handles Security.

But theoretical and practically some many things should be handle properly and done by protocols instead of think about which specific layer will perform specific task. It should be done by protocols rather than layers wise task will be divided.

Difficult to fit a new protocol for specific task means we can’t add/modify new features for security /compression/presentation

Limitation

Limits of using the model in that situation is it’s not work for exact application for situation.
