Have you ever experienced an issue at work or in your personal life because of an objective that was not SMART? This could be an objective assigned to you by a manager or client, or one you set for yourself. What problems resulted, and how could they have been avoided by changing the objective?
Answer: Yes I have faced an issue in my personal life because of an objective that was not SMART. I was my school and was weak in mathematics. I set an objective that in my exams I will improve my percentage in the subject by 20% but I did not set any time frame for achieving this objective nor did I made and concrete plans for achieving the objective. As a result when the exam came I was not prepared for achieving the objective as I had not completed my full course on time. As a result my performance did not improve. As my objective was not time bound hence it could not be achieved. If this objective was made time bound and I would have set a limit for it. If there was a timeline set for achieving this objective, I would have been able to plan accordingly and complete my course on time and improve my percentage by 20% or even more. Thus I can now realize the importance of SMART criteria.
