I have experienced Traveler’s Diarrhea a food borne illness . When we visit a place where the climate or hygienic customs are different from ours at home, there is an increased risk of developing traveler's diarrhea. . It's caused by eating contaminated food or drinking contaminated water. Fortunately, traveler's diarrhea usually isn't serious — it's just unpleasant. It is caused by eating food or drinking water contaminated with bacteria, viruses, or parasites. I have suspected the travelers diarrhea by observing it’s common symptoms as moderate dehydration and persistent vomiting and loose stools.

Causes of travelers diarrhea:- There is possibility of origination of travelers diarrhea from the stress of traveling or a change in diet. traveler's diarrhea is developed after ingesting food or water that's contaminated with organisms from excrement. These organisms are infectious agents — including various bacteria, viruses and parasites — that enter our digestive area and overpower our defense mechanisms, resulting in signs and symptoms of traveler's diarrhea.

The most common cause of traveler's diarrhea is enter toxigenic Escherichia coli (ETEC) bacteria. These bacteria attach themselves to the lining of your intestine and release a toxin that causes diarrhea and abdominal cramps.

Symptoms of Travelers diarrhea:-. The most common symptoms of travelers diarrhea is moderate to severe dehydration, persistent vomiting, a high fever, loose stools, or severe pain in the abdomen or rectum. If you or your child experiences any of these signs or symptoms or if the diarrhea lasts longer than a few days, you need to see a doctor.

The action to be taken to avoid the travelers diarrhea are as follows:-

To prevent traveler’s diarrhea, people traveling from the United States to developing countries should avoid:-

(1.) Stop drinking tap water or water from the unknown sources. Stop using tap water to brushing teeth.

(2.) Stop drinking unpasteurized milk or milk products.

(3.) Stop eating vegetables or fruit salads from out sources, instead eat self peeled fruit and salads.

(4.) Stop eating street food from street vendors , mostly street vendors are unhygienic.

(5.) Travelers can drink bottled water, bottled soft drinks, and hot drinks such as coffee or tea.

(6.) Always consult health care provider before traveling. The health care provider may recommend to bring medication with us in any case we develop diarrhea during our trip.

(7.) Health care providers may advise if you have a weakened immune systems—to take antibiotics before and during a trip to help prevent traveler’s diarrhea.

To reduce the risk of acquiring a foodborne illness while eating out at a restaurant:-

(a.) meat, poultry, and fish, these foods are needed to be cooked to a temperature high enough to kill harmful germs that may be present in it. Thus order food that is properly cooked . If served food is undercooked meat, poultry, seafood, or eggs, send them back to be cooked until they are safe to eat.

(b.) Germs which causes food poisoning grows up when food is in the danger zone, between 40˚F and 140˚F.thus Avoid food served lukewarm. Cold food should be served cold, and hot food should be served hot. If you’re selecting food from a buffet or salad bar, make sure that the hot food is steaming, and the cold food is chilled.

(c.) Check a restaurant’s score at health department’s website. You can ask the health department for a copy of the report, or look for it when you get to the restaurant.

Healthy food choices:-. Food contamination is not just limited to foods but also chicken or fish. Prepared fruits, vegetables and salads are also potentially dangerous. Contaminated food will usually look, smell and taste normal. Food poisoning infectious agents can grow and multiply on some types of food more easily than others.

(a.)cooked rice and pasta

(b.) prepared salads like rice salads

(c.)prepared fruit salads

(d.) ready-to-eat foods, including sandwiches, rolls, and pizza that contain any of the foods above.

(e.) raw and cooked meat, including poultry such as chicken and turkey, and foods containing these, such as casseroles, curries.

(f.)dairy products, such as custard and dairy-based desserts like custard tarts and cheesecake

(g.)eggs and egg products.

These products are potentially high risk of food poisoning.

Eating highly nutrition rich food help to maintain a good health and reduce the risk of disease. Eating various foods help to maintain a good health and diet which provides various nutrition to our body.

food groups which provides equal amount of nutritions are as follows:-

(1.)vegetables and legumes/beans

(2.) fruits

(3.) meats and poultry, fish, eggs, tofu, nuts and seeds, legumes/beans

(4.) (cereal) foods, mostly wholegrain and/or high cereal fiber varieties.

(5.) milk, yoghurt, cheese and/or alternatives, mostly reduced fat.

(1.)Vegetables and legumes – cooked vegetables can be used in lunch and dinner. For sandwich filling salad vegetables can be used. For a healthy lunch vegetables soup can be used.

(2.)Fruit –fruits are easy to carry and preferred with most of food. Fresh whole fruit is recommended over fruit juice and dried fruits.

(3.)Bread, cereals, rice, pasta and noodles – add rice, pasta or noodles to serves of protein and vegetables for an all-round meal.

(4.)Lean meat, fish, poultry, eggs, nuts, legumes and tofu – these can all provide protein. It’s easy to include a mixture of protein into snacks and meals.

(5.) Milk, yoghurt and cheese – milk is calcium rich and help us make our bone strong. We can use this in breakfast. It provides high level of nutritions.
