In my opinion, people who are addicted strongly believe that it’s the drug, alcohol or smoking that keeps them going and alive. This false belief should be proven wrong in order to bring them out of the addiction. One of the most important methods I think of is person centered counseling and unconditional positive regard. Most of the time people in addiction would tend to think that they are worthless or that they have no one who would love them. So, changing their thought process and making them feel worthy and good would help them realize that they have more higher reasons to live and they are under the clutches of a giant called addiction. Accepting them as they are and helping them formulate their own redemption plan would make them feel valued and capable. So, it’s still possible to treat people with therapies and even some medications to bring them out.
