a lifting machine is a device that use a small force over a long distance to move a large weight over a small distance true or false
True
lifting machines are just a special case of simple machines where we use small forces to lift large weight over small distances.
See here the work done remains same, by using a lifting device what we do is we just apply small force over a large distance instead of applying large force over small distance so that the work done that is the product of applied force x distance remains same in both the cases but with the help of lifting machines we just convert that bigger force into smaller force that can be easily applied.
This conversion is usually defined as a mechanical advantage.
One classical example of this is lever Mechanism where we can lift the weight on the smaller arm by applying small force on the bigger arm.
If you have further doubts please do post comments and if its all clear please give positive feedback. Thanks

A 7.50kg box is lifted from the ground straight up a distance of 2.40m with a constant speed by lifting force L as shown to the right. a) Draw the free body diagram for the box. Ay 2.40m 7.5 Neglect air resistance. b) Find the lifting force L. c) Find the work done by each force on the box. d) Find the net work done on the box (by all of the forces)
Two small identical balls A and B are held a distance r apart on a frictionless surface, with i very large compared with the size of the balls. Ball A has a net charge of2q; ball B has a net charge of q. The balls are released at the same instant and begin to move together. Which characteristics describe the magnitudes of their accelerations over time? point Oequal and increasing Ounequal and increasing Oequal and decreasing Oequal and constant Which...
How would you use Bernoulli's and continuity eqn to find force lifting bird up? Please explain.
The fundamental force that is the strongest over small distances is the force. (Record the appropriate digit in the answer space.) A/
Electric Force Suppose the charge q on each small sphere is 1.0 HC, the distance a is 30 cm, and L 50 cm. What is the magnitude of the electric force acting on each charged sphere? Use for the Coulomb constant k,-9.0x 10 Nmc The electric force magnitude isN. (Give the correct number)
An athlete whose mass is 94.5 kg is performing weight-lifting exercises. Starting from the rest position, he lifts, with constant acceleration, a barbell that weighs 530 N . He lifts the barbell a distance of 0.70 m in a time of 1.1 s . Use Newton's laws to find the total force that his feet exert on the ground as he lifts the barbell. Express your answer using two significant figures.
An elephant (weight 50000 N) sits on the large plate of a hydraulic lift with area 10 m^2. The small plate of the lift has an area of 0.01 m^2. How much force, applied to the small plate, is required to lift the elephant? If I move the small plate a distance of 1 m, how far does the elephant move?
True or False? The longer the lever arm that a given force uses, the small the torque that force will produce. I think this is false because of Torque = Lever arm (r) x Force (F). Not sure how else to explain this?
2. Question from 1.1: Rectangular Coordinatas Use Hooke's Law for springs, which states that the distance a spring is stretched (or compressed) varies directly as the force on the spring An overhead garage door has two springs, one on each side of the door. A force of 11 pounds is required to stretch each spring 1 foot. Because of a pulley system, the springs stretch only one-half the distance the door travels. The door moves a total of 10 feet,...
