Why do chromosomes resemble the letter X ?
Please find the answer below:
During the S phase of the cell cycle, there is duplication of chromosomes which becomes double-stranded. Each of these strands is called chromatid. The two chromatids are joined together at the centromere by proteins. During the prophase stage of mitosis, the replicated chromosomes begin to condense and they appear as thick 'X' shaped structure. Thus the chromosomes resemble the letter X.
Define allergy. How does the process of allergy resemble that of immunity, and how do they differ? Why is it important to know the difference?
Why does the mutation rate differ between autosomes and X-chromosomes?
Q 14. Why do offspring resemble their parents, but only approximately? Some factors that might be relevant would include quantitative-trait loci, the phenotypic variance, the additive genetic variance, and the environmental variance. Just dropping these names (and others) does not really explain anything, unless you say what they are and how they interact to affect the resemblance between parents and offspring. 11.01 • 1978 • 1976 Offspring beak depth (mm) 8.0 9.0 10.0 11.0 Midparent beak depth (mm)
Chromosomes that do NOT determine the sex of an individual are called homologous chromosomes nonhomologous chromosomes sex chromosomes autosomes
Do fungi, plants or bacteria have proteins that resemble human myoglobin?
Description Human chromosomes are classified as either autosomes or sex chromosomes, and the inheritance patterns of traits vary depending on the type of chromosome they are located on. Why is this the case? Instructions Read Chapter 5 in Essentials of Genetics, then respond to the prompt below: Prompt: In humans (and most animals), sex is determined using the X-Y system. The basis of this system is that the number of X chromosomes and Y chromosomes determines whether the individual will...
Why do you need to ray diagram so many points on the letter “L” to see the complete image of the letter? F 27 2F F Red Image Black a object
the statement is true or false and then explain why. Many human genes so closely resemble their homologs in yeast that the protein-coding portion of the human gene will substitute for the function of the yeast gene in yeast cells.
Describe the plesiadapiform mammals. In what ways do they resemble modern primates? In what ways are they different?
Assume that stock market returns do not resemble a single-index structure. (a) Assume that stock market returns do not resemble a single-index structure. An investment fund analyzes 2,000 stocks in order to construct a mean-variance efficient portfolio constrained by 2,000 investments. They will need to calculate (N) ____ expected returns, (N)___________ variances of returns and ________ covariances. Assume that stock market returns do follow a single-index structure. An investment fund analyzes 2,000 stocks in order to construct a mean-variance efficient...
