What are the policy implications of social structure theories? What kinds of changes in society and in government policy might be based on these theories? If these policies were implemented, do you think they would likely bring about a reduction in crime? Why or why not?

Social Structural theories suggests that lack of education, poverty, skills needed for work and the influence of the subculture are the most important factors contributing to crime. Although there is a social goal which is set in the society, not all the people have the same means and opportunities to achieve them, thus those who believe that they are oppressed engage in crime to achieve them. This would mean government should frame policies that would aim to reduce poverty through better education and skill training for people who are unemployed. It is also the responsibility of the government to identify people who need the basic needs such as housing, medicine and food in order to ensure that they are treated well. When people are educated and employed, they do not only earn money for a livelihood but also learn how to lead a decent life in the society without violating the norms of the society and the laws of the government. Thus, equal treatment and equal opportunity would also morally support those who feel disadvantaged.
