Answer #1

Machine Learning can be used as a tool to predict hospital readmissions providing 94% accuracy. It is one of the most important branch of Artificial intelligence(AI).

Steps:

1)Creating a dataset; it consists of all the observations of the patients which include patient characteristics ,conditions, tests and medications.

2)Data pre-processing : this includes transforming the data and cleaning. In data transformation we change some data from categorical to binary that is, 1s and 0s and some variables are transformed from integer to string. In data cleaning we detect the values of categorical data that were missing and perform imputation.

3)Feature Selection: Here the most applicable feature is selected. Gradient boosting technique is used.

then various machine learning models are used such as

  • logistic regression
  • support vector machine
  • naive bayesian classifier
  • multi-layer perceptron

Hospitals are seeking more effective ways to identify patients at high risk of readmission—especially now that Medicare has begun reducing payments to hospitals...

According to the provisions of the Affordable Care Act, hospital reimbursement for healthcare services can be severely limited or entirely eliminated in paying for patients readmitted to the hospital within 30 days of discharge for conditions such as pneumonia. This well-intended provision was put forward with the goal of getting healthcare organizations to provide sufficient post-discharge support to patients. However, this provision is resulting in lack of reimbursement for purposeful re-admissions that occur within 30 days. For example, Jane was...
