Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems or HCAHPS is a national standardized survey that reports how patient’s rate and perceive hospital care. This system is important because it evaluates the hospital’s performance and allows more improvement for areas that the patient’s perceive them lacking. Ways that I believe I can improve or potentially contribute is ensuring patient safety and comfort at all times. It is important that we always evaluate after we implement our nursing actions. For instance, in regards to patient teaching, we have to ensure patient understanding by asking the patient to demonstrate independently or the ability to verbalize teaching instructions. Sleep is also vital for patients in the hospital so I want to ensure that there is low-stimuli, and a quiet environment at night. In hospitals, they have the “quiet time” at night for patients, so we can also follow that by keeping the nurse’s station as quiet as possible.
