Provision 3 of the Code of Ethics for Nurses states "the Nurse promotes, advocates for, and strives to protect the health, safety, and rights of the patient". When I am working as a RN, these provision is something that I need to practice and accomplish everyday. Nurses are patient advocates and we accomplish this by educating our patients to ensure they are making informed decisions, involving the patient and family in the treatment, making the patient a priority, and by being a resource for the patient to help them with whatever they may need. Nurse preserve the health and safety of patients through the nursing process and providing therapeutic nursing procedures. I plan to be extra careful in my practice to maintain patient safety; this will be accomplished through effective hand hygiene, double checking medication orders, and seeking clarification for something I may not be sure about. Provision 5 discusses self-care of the nurse and that the nurse owes them self the same duty they provide others. This provision may be difficult to uphold, since I had witnessed nurses ignore this provision throughout my clinical experience. I plan to hold two jobs when I begin my career as a nurse to be able to pay off my school loans; therefore it may be difficult to allocate time to rest and also to find time to do stress by doing things i enjoy.
Nurse provide quality of care to the patients by indulging evidence based practice, cultural competence environment as well as with the advanced skills. They indulge ethical principles in their nursing practice. Nurse provides education and care plan to the patients to promote health.
Nurse has to takecare of the patients so they need to takecare of themselves first. Long working hours and excessive workload causes burnout among nurses.
The question arises that working in a two jobs, there will be more burnout. Is it possible that with so much burnout and poor health, nurse can deliver quality of care to the patients?
