Evidence-based practice (EBP) is based on a systematic search of the most current best evidence in making decisions about patient care and improving patient outcomes (Academy of Medical Surgical Nurses, 2018). EBP is becoming the standard of nursing care. One example of the use of Chlorhexidine Gluconate (CHG) bath to reduce healthcare-acquired infections. The rate of acquisition of multi-drug resistant organism lowered by 21% and the rate of hospital-acquired bloodstream infections lowered by 31% with the use of CHG baths compared to the use of non-microbial cloths (Climo et al, 2013). Personally, I utilize CHG at my workplace. There is a certain procedure with the use CHG when bathing patients. Patients with Foley catheters or central lines require a more intensive bathing process since they are at higher risk for acquiring infections. Nurses should carefully review hospital policies and practices to help improve patient health outcomes.

Chlorhexidine bath for routine ICU patient which area will you avoid ?
Chlorhexidine wipes should be avoided in the area where the patient has Incontinence Associated Dermatitis IAD.
