I believe nurses as lobbyists are essential to the growth of nursing as a profession. Nurses who lobby and push for political change in healthcare do it to advocate for their patients, change in practice issues, and to advocate for the nursing profession. Nursing is the number one trusted profession; they perform direct patient care and can offer a point of view that others in politics cannot. In Texas nurse practitioners are fighting for full practice in Texas. A proposed House Bill 1792 would allow nurse practitioners with at least 2,080 hours under the delegation of a physician to practice independently (Wofford, 2019). Nurse practitioners are fighting to be able to practice to the full extent of their degree, this will in turn provide quicker access to healthcare, decrease the wait time, and improve the quality of care of their patients.
The paragraph describes about what a nurse can do being a lobbyist. They can advocate for patient, changes in practices and in nursing profession as they have direct patient care exposure and will be the best person to find any new symptoms and the required treatment at the specific time and request to pass a bill politically. Nurse practitioners can work independently if they have 2080 hours experience under a physician according to a Bill 1792.In Texan the nurses are fighting for the same.This can reduce the wait time and the quality of patient care in overall can be improved.
