Most individuals do not go through nursing school solely for the purpose of financial stability. The profession requires more than the ability to complete the required courses. Nursing requires full commitment to the profession, sacrifices from other aspects of life, and compassion for others. Professional commitment is the degree of emotional involvement, identification, and attachment of workers to their profession (Kjersti, 2017). Professional commitment means being able to set aside my personal agenda or problems before starting a shift and being completely present for my patients. One must be able to set aside personal biases or political beliefs when providing care for our patients. We should also remember that we are still nurses outside of our workplace and when not in our uniforms. We should act professionally at all times.
