The difference between values and beliefs is that beliefs are convictions that we believe to be true, without proof or evidence. An example of this would be religion. Beliefs often arise from learned experiences, resulting from the cultural and environmental situations we have faced (Davis, 2019). So often times our actions are based on our beliefs due something we have experienced in the past . Values are based on what is important to us as individuals. When we use values to make decisions we focus on what is important to us. An example of values would be making a decision on what we as individuals feel is more important.
Our values and beliefs have a major influence on how we will perform as nurses. My personal values and beliefs have influenced my nursing practice. Ethics is a major component in nursing it is one of the most important things we follow when doing right by the patient and keeping them safe all while providing the best care we can. When following and practicing the ethical principles of nursing; justice, beneficence, nonmaleficence, accountability, fidelity, autonomy, and veracity we are ensuring that our patients are getting the best care possible. Having proper morals is also an important way to conduct our nursing practice. This is the when you stand up for something even if you are alone in the idea. An example of this would be standing up for the patients decision even if others believe it is the wrong one. We are there to provide the care needed for the patient, as well as being the patients advocate.
Values and Beliefs are two important factors that influence the activities of the people. It has a great impact from the culture too. As nurses, we are supposed to provide care to the patient by understanding his/her cultural background.
