Nitrogen adsorption measurements are conducted on 2.5 grams of a
solid catalyst at 77 K. In plotting x/V(1-x)
versus x (where x = P/P0) over the range of x from 0.05 to 0.30, a
slope of 1.5 x 10-3 cm3 and an intercept of
0.3 x 10-3 cm3 are determined. The He displacement for the same
sample is found to be 0.85 cm3, while the
Hg displacement at P = 2 atm is found to be 1.8 cm3. Based on these
data calculate (a) BET surface area, (b)
pore volume, (c) skeletal density, and (d) particle density.
