The two roles of the operating system are:

  1. Resource Management
  2. Security

1. Resource Management:

All the resources like Memory, Processor, Device, and File are managed by the operating system. Memory management includes primary memory and secondary memory. The program is executed in the main memory and it is stored in the secondary memory.  

The operating system allocates the CPU to the processor on the basis of priority. All the devices are controlled by the operating system by using the device driver.

2. Security:

The operating system is responsible for any unauthorized access to the program or data. This feature protects the data or file from viruses, threats, worms, malware, and unauthorized remote access, etc.

The operating system uses a much different technique or method to ensure system security and security path are updated on a regular basis.
