Neisseria gonorrhoeae causes Gonorrhoeae. It is a sexually transmitted disease (STD disease). Neisseria gonorrhoeae also called as gonococcus (gram - negative bacteria).

Methods of Transmission:

it is transmitted majorly by sexual contact and apart from that occasionally through oral contact

Effects on the body:

In females:

• infection to fallopian tubes
• bleeding during intercourse
• burning sensation during intercourse
• change in vaginal discharge

In males:

• Secretion of Pus
• Yellow or white discharge
• Inflammation of testicles and prostate gland
• Burning sensation during micturition

Incidence of disease:

The age group of people that are commonly affected with the disease are from 15 - 48 years. Prevalence is about 0.8% of females and 0.6% of males are affected.

                      According to WHO an estimated of 96 million new cases of Gonorrhoeae has been recorded every year. Mostly diagnosed cases are from south part of the world.
