Depression is a type of mental disorder and it causes many effects. There are biological and psychological factors causing depression. The biological causes of depression is called biological depression. There also appears biological change in the victim. The victim feels sadness, loss of temper, hopelessness and loss of interest to any thing. Depression makes one frustrated and lonely.

Biological causes behind depression:

• The researchers have found that the chemical imbalance is a possible source of depression. There are millions of cells around our central nervous system. Numerous chemical reactions take place there. For the imbalance in the chemical reactions depression may originate.
• Amygdala is the part of the brain that causes emotion. When activity of Amygdala is high then the individual is sad or depressed.
• Thalamus is the source of many sensory feelings like behavioral reactions, thinking, learning etc. Some researchers think that the bipolar disorder in the thalamus is the cause of many sad feelings.
• Hippocampus is associated with long term memory and recollection. The lack of connection disorders between Hippocampus and Amygdala is the source of depressed mood. It is said the those who are always depressed bear smaller Hippocampus.
• Modern researchers also found that genetic factors may be source of depression.
• The malfunction of neurotransmitter is also a major cause of depression. When electrical signals do not travel smoothly through axon problems may arise.

There are certain advanced technologies for tracking brain like positron emissary tomography ( PET) , single photon emission computed tomography (SPECT) , Functional magnetic resonance imaging (FMRI). With the help of these techniques the roots of depression is detected.

There are some biological changes for depression. There are emotional and behavioral changes. The victims do not feel hunger. He spends sleepless night. The side effect of depression is also dangerous. Depression causes emotional threat and even the victim may take the path of suicide.
