Hello, can you assist with the following:
Are our current laws in the US which apply to intellectual property appropriate and necessary? Should they be scaled back or done away with? To what degree do alternatives to copyright like Creative Commons solve any problems you perceive with IP laws?

Intellectual property (IP) refers to creations of the mind, such as inventions; literary and artistic works; designs; and symbols, names and images used in commerce. there are 4 types of IP protections given which are appropriate as well as necessay because they protect the work of people from others using it for thier own profit.

for example- if someone invented a device and did not protect it under IP law then others like manufacturing company will make many such device and make profit out of it. the inventor will not get anything.

This is why it is very important and necessary to have IP laws.

The only thing which i want to scaled back in those laws are time limitation given in IP protection.

Patents give inventors the right to use their product in the marketplace, or to profit by transferring that right to someone else. Depending on the type of invention, patent rights are valid for up to 20 years.

20 years of time is more enough for a person to have profit so it should be reduced down like 15 years because this can create monopoly in the market for long period of time.that would be not good for customers as well as other competitors.

Copyrights apply to writings, music, motion pictures, architecture, and other original intellectual and artistic expressions . Most copyrights are valid for the creator's lifetime, plus 70 years.

we can see how long timeline for lasting a copyright is. this should also be reduced so that other people would be able to use copyright work as inspiration to create something new. people unable to do that because they get legal issues if they use copyright work of another even a little.

Common problems related with IP laws are that IP laws help in creating monopolies, lower the morale and inspiration of other people who are unable to use invented or copyright work.

these problems can be solved with Creative commons because Creative Commons is a non-profit organization that provides licensing structures people can use to license their copyrighted work to anyone willing to abide by the licensing terms. It makes it easy to share work without giving up total control or spending countless hours granting permissions.

so for example- if someone wants to use Harrypotter writing as base for producing a new movie but could not because of copyright so CC can help with that. this will help in solving common problems like person does not have to wait for 70 years to create something that is protected because of copyright.
