Companies such as Microsoft and Adobe have been at the receiving end of the problem and have settled lawsuits worth millions wherein softwares developed by them have been stolen. From a personal perspective, this is also a big problem as a lot of money is involved in buying a high end software product and if there is a doubt that the software bought is a pirated one which endangers the maintenance and support warranty that comes with purchase, then the risk increases greatly for the buyer.

Also the performance of a stolen software that impersonates the original one may not be as good as the original software and also may have multiple bugs. This could further hamper user experience. There is also the threat of litigation.
