Law of inheritance has been analysed by boveri and Sutton in 1902 and proposed chromosomal theory of inheritance in which chromosomes are carriers of genetic material and chromosomes are linear units in which genes are present at specific loci

After your work, Oscar hertwig identified cell division type called meiosis in 1876.In meiosis special type of cell division that reduces the chromosome number by half, creating four haploid cells, each genetically distinct from the parent cell that gave rise to them.

In meiosis, the chromosomes duplicate during interphase and homologous chromosomes exchange genetic information (chromosomal crossover) during the first division, called meiosis I. The daughter cells divide again in meiosis II, splitting up sister chromatids to form haploid gametes.
