According to the ECC website, the average age of ECC students is 28.2 years. Suppose we collect data from 30 Mth120 online students and find an average age of 20.3 years, with a standard deviation of 2.3 years.

Is there enough evidence at the 5% level of significance to support the claim that the average age of Mth120 online students is less than 28.2 years?

Answer #1

The Hypotheses are:

Rejection region at 0.05 level of significance :

Reject Ho if T< -t 0.05,29 =-1.70

Test Statistic:

Since the sample standard deviation is given hence we will be using T- statistic to check the Hypothesis as

Conclusion:

Since The test statistic T <<-t =-1.65 hence it falls in rejection region so, we reject the null Hypothesis and conclude that there is enough evidence to support the claim at 0.05 level of significance.

T-Table for t value calculation at Degree of freedom=n-1=30-1=29

00:55:16 A wedding website states that the average cost of a wedding is $29,205. One concerned bride hopes that the average is less than reported. To see if her hope is correct, she surveys 36 recently married couples and finds that the average cost of weddings in the sample was $27,338. Assuming that the population standard deviation is $4532, is there sufficient evidence to support the bride's hope at the 0.02 level of significance? Step 3 of 3: Draw a...

Help with 5 step method, please walk me through. According to a magazine, the average age of all CEOs of medium sized companies in the United States is less than 58 years. To check, you obtain a random sample of 70 such CEOs and find the average age to be 55 years with a standard deviation of 6 years. Test at the 1% level of significance if the average age is less than 58 years. Use the 5 step method.

    6. Math instructors are not only interested in how their students do on exams, on average, but how the exam scores vary. To many instructors, the variance, or standard deviation, may be more important than the average. Suppose a math instructor believes that the standard deviation for his final exam is 4.3 points. One of his best students thinks otherwise. The student claims that the standard deviation is more than 4.3 points. The student asks 15 of his classmates for...
