History of Pepsi:
It is an American MNC food, snack & beverage corporation. The recipe for this drink was developed by Caleb bradham a pharmacist & businessman from North Carolina.
He coined the name Pepsi cola in 1898 & because of its growing popularity started the Pepsi Cola Company in 1902 & patent for the recipe was obtained in 1903. The company was incorporated in Delaware in 1919. However sugar rationing during the World War 1 damaged the company’s financial health of the company which forced bradham to declare bankruptcy.
In 1923 the company sold is secret recipe & trade mark to craven holding corporation. In 1931, Roy Megargel, a Wall Street broker, purchased the Pepsi trademark, business, and goodwill from Craven Holding in association with Charles Guth.
In 1960’s product lines of Pepsi co was expanded with the manufacture of diet Pepsi & purchase of mountain dew. In 1965 it got merged with frinto lay to become Pepsi co. The company's headquarters were relocated to the present location of Purchase, New York in 1970, and in 1986 PepsiCo was reincorporated in the state of North Carolina. After 39 years trading on the NYSE, PepsiCo moved its shares to Nasdaq on December 20, 2017
Between 1970’s & 1990’s it started to diversify on packaged foods & beverage brands. The company faced major divestments which got concluded in 1997afterwhich it purchased the Tropicana products in 1998 %& merged with Quaker oats in 2001.
n August 2009, PepsiCo made a $7 billion offer to acquire the two largest bottlers of its products in North America: Pepsi Bottling Group and PepsiAmericas. In 2010 this acquisition was completed, resulting in the formation of a new wholly owned subsidiary of PepsiCo, Pepsi Beverages Company. In 2011 it made the largest acquisition by purchasing two thirds stake in will-bill-dann-foods, a Russian company that produces milk, juices, yoghurt etc. after acquiring 23% in 2011 it became the largest food & beverage company in Russia.
In 2012 it announced joint venture with Theo Muller group which got renamed as Muller Quaker diary. This marked Pepsi’s entry into diary filed in US. However the joint venture was dissolved in 2015.
In May 2018 it announced the acquisition of fruit & veggie snack maker bare foods. It also quartered with allmotti in November 2018 which seems to be Pepsi’s first tech & computer Service Company. In August 20, 2018, PepsiCo announce that it had entered into agreement to acquire Soda Stream. The purchase is expected to close by January 2019 as part of a strategic plan to steer Pepsi toward offering healthier products.
The coca cola is considered to be historically the primary competitor of Pepsi in the beverages market.
