Beta oxidation - Mitochondrial oxidation of fatty acids takes place by beta-oxidation. In the first stage-β oxidation-the fatty acids undergo oxidative removal of successive two-carbon units in the form of acetyl-CoA, starting from the carboxyl end of the fatty acyl chain.the bond between alpha- beta carbon is broken hence the name beta-oxidation is given.

Omega oxidation - the alcoholic group is subsequently oxidised to -COOH by dehydrogenase producing a fatty acid with a carboxyl group at each end.
