A2. Explain Hobbes’ views on government and our obligation to obey the law. What exactly are the conclusions that he is arguing for? Is his position plausible? Explain and defend your position. (300-350 words)

Hobbes was a person who truly believed in a government system ruled by a king or a monarchy than a system with no government . His point was that human beings are selfish and that every one would commit more crime without enforcement of any law. He mentioned that social contract shall be made among people in a country. This contract includes list of rights which need to be protected for the safety of mankind. It will ultimately be the king or the sovereign power who would make sure that the law is implemented successfully. His conclusion with respect to supporting monarchy was a genuine one. However, I do not support his view of monarchy. This is because, as Hobbes said all human beings are selfish. A king is no different from any others. He would also choose many selfish acts which would be against the public interest or would be against the citizen rights. Moreover people would not have the right to question his actions as the power of people is handed over to him. Therefore the concept of monarchy is a good one but it has negative sides as well. However the system is better in comparison to one where there is no government.
