Capsule is extracellular polysaccharide secreted by many bacteria. Mostly capsules are hydrophilic and help the bacteria to avoid desiccation by preventing dehydration. It also protects the bacteria from destruction by WBCs and ultimately to escape engulfment by phagocytic cells, i.e., macrophages.

A. If the mutant strain loses its capsule, the bacteria will lose its infective or invasive ability, known as virulence, and can be readily phagocitized by White Blood Cells and will not cause disease.

B. LPS is not needed for bacterial growth . It protects bacteria from antibiotics and complement-mediated lysis and defence against host immune response. It also protects the outer membrane from chemical or enzymatic attack. If the bacteria can't synthesize LPS it will no longer be able to cause toxic effect of the bacterial disease and can be degraded easily by host immune system.
