Answer #1

When liquid water is converted to ice, it releases 1.44kcal/mol

When ice is converted to liquid water it absorbs 1.44kcal/mol

Moles of ice = Mass of ice / Molar Mass of ice

Moles of ice = 50g / 18 g/mol

Moles of ice = 2.78 mol

1 mol of ice needs 1.44kcal of energy for it to melt

2.78 mol of ice needs (1.44 x 2.78) kcal of energy for it to melt

2.78 mol of ice needs 4 kcal of energy for it to melt

4 kcal is absorbed
