sit in a chair, stand up, and walk across the
room
(if you can't walk, how do you get across the room?
what are the steps?)
Write a how to manual about what needs to happen in
our bodies for this to take place? It might seem as simple as
above, but it is not. What muscles are involved? How do the muscles
communicate with the brain? This exercise is to make you start to
think about everything that must happen to sit in a chair, stand
up, and walk across the room. Sit a chair, stand up and feel what
is happening... and write it down! turn in your how to manual.
Tinhis is something you could write a novel about. Limit your time
on this activity to 15 minutes.
A) To SIT in a chair following muscles are involved -
1. Quadriceps femoris is contracted
2. Hamstrings shorten and their angle changes
3.iliopsoas angle also changes .
B) SITTING TO STANDING -
MUSCLES:
Hip extension by hamstrings and glutes
Back extension by paraspinalis and erector spinae
Knee extension by rectus femoris and quadriceps femoris.
JOINTS:
Sarcoiliac joint for hip stabilization
Anterior cruciate ligament, posterior cruciate ligament , lateral and medial ligaments of knee joint that prevent prevent lateral or medial deviation of foot .
NERVES:
Femoral ,tibial, deep peroneal, common peroneal nerves are involved.
WALKING -
Involves 5 stages -
Heel strike:
The foot touches the ground first
Gluteus maximus- acts on hip for forward motion of lower limb
Quadriceps femoris- keeps the leg extended at knee and thigh flexed at hip
Anterior compartment of leg- dorsiflexion of ankle is maintained by this compartment.
Support :
The whole foot rests on ground
Inverters and everters- contract in balanced manner to stabilise the foot.
Quadriceps femoris- accepts the body weight by extension of thigh.
Gluteus medius, minimus and tensor fascia lata-They counteract the imbalance created from having most of the body weight on 1 leg by contacting.
Toe off :
Where the toes are on ground
Posterior compartment of leg- plantar flexion of ankle by soleus ,gastrocnemius and tibialis posterior.
Leg lift-
Leg has left the ground
Hamstrings
Anterior compartment of leg- dorsiflexion at ankle
Rectus femoris and iliopsoas.
Swing -
The raised leg is moved forwards
Iliopsoas and rectus femoris
Quadriceps femoris
Anterior compartment of leg- maintains dorsiflexion of ankle
C) HOW MUSCLES INTERACT WITH BRAIN :
Brain connects with muscles only by motor neurons of the spinal cordWhen brain sends motor impulse through these motor neurons chemical mediators are released at the endings. They cause the muscle to contract which makes them shorter.

Nemesis You walk up to a mirror and stand 3.5 meters away How far away from you is your mirror image? reflection distance (m) =
If you are lying down and stand up quickly, you can get dizzy or feel faint. This is because the blood vessels don't have time to expand to compensate for the blood pressure drop. If your brain is 0.4 m higher than your heart when you are standing, how much lower is your blood pressure at your brain than it is at your heart? The density of blood plasma is about 1025 kg/m3 and suppose your maximum (systolic) pressure of...

Can you please give me some key take aways from this article? Growing up in Atlanta, I am familiar with the Parks Middle cheating scandal. I remember watching it on the news as a kid and not really understanding how and why these teachers and principals had done what they did. I think it would have been a very difficult situation to be a part of as a teacher, considering their leader was pressuring them to do something highly illegal....
