Alcaligenes faecalis can not use glucose, sucrose and lactose as source of carbon. It gives negative test for phenol red fermentation for these sugars. It is heterotrophic bacteria.
The carbon sources for the bacteria include various sodium salts such as sodium lactate and sodium acetate and citrate.
This bacteria can carry out denitrification and decompose the nitrate, nitrate and ammonia
It can not use starch as carbon source and hence gives negative test for iodine. It also gives negative test for lipid and casein hydrolysis.

The given bacteria is resistant to antibiotics such as  aminoglycosides, chloramphenicol and tetracyclines .
