I agree that a person should be committed to a mental facility when he/she has threatened their own life. This process helps ensure that professionals are involved in establishing the level of suicide risk and the type of care necessary to reasonably ensure the client's safety. Sometimes, clients are resistant to the idea of seeking help for their suicidal feelings and so it is important that they are admitted to a facility so as to minimize the chances of harming themselves again.
