Hi, I'm considering the following question:

"Let's say we just calculated the t-test statistic for the following hypotheses: H0: mu <= 34, Ha: mu > 34. The sample size was 25, and the test statistic turned out to be -2.84. What would be the correct conclusion?

A- Do not reject the H0 - the p-value is smaller than alpha

B- Reject the H0 - the test statistic is more extreme than the critical value

C- Reject the H0 - the p-value is smaller than alpha

D- Do not reject the H0 - we have a right-tailed test, while the test statistic is negative"

Option D seems appropriate, since it's weird to test a right-tailed hypothesis with a negative statistic. However, maybe it is possible to convert the test statistic to something positive (since it can be mirrored).

You are correct here in the logic, it makes no sense to test a right-tailed hypothesis with a negative statistic because the p - value will be very large. We can't convert it into positive test statistic and hence, we can straight forwardly conclude without looking into p - value that we do not reject Ho.

Option D is correct.
