Sit and observe a campfire. How are the factors discussed in this experiment ( surface area, temperature, catalyst, nature of reactants, and concentration) evident in the burning of a wood fire? (You should be able to find examples of each factor, with the possible exception of catalysis.)

An open air fire in camp is used for cooking and warmth is called campfire. Campfire depend on many factors like temperature of surrounding, type of wood has been used and many other thing.

surface area -: there should be good surface area to ignite the fire so that there is good supply of oxygen which is one of the main component of reactant. If surface area is small there is less suply of air and large amount of smoke due to which burning does not take place. for example if you want wide stocky fire taller hump should be used.and for towering skinny fire the shorter hump should be used.

temperature -; the ignition temperature of wood should be moderate so that burning should be started in less time as if wood are not properly dry it will not burn easily and moreover a lot of smoke will produce.

catalyst -: is the substance which increase the rate of reaction without consumed in it its physical appearance may be changed.A flammable substance is required to stat the buning.

Nature of reactant -: reactants are wood and oxygen. we need small pieces of wood for combustion the smaller the size of reactant faster the reaction. similar for oxygen.

concentration -: neither the wood or kerosene should be in large amount as if wood is in large amount it take a lot of time to complete the combustion. or if kerosene is in large amount it ignite all the wood very fast as a result a lot of fire
