If after six months’ of effort you find your Knowledge Management project is still not making headway, what actions would you take? What information would you seek out in order to decide the best course of action to take? How and when would you assess progress again? ( Please provide an answer with no less than 12 sentences )

Knowledge management system (KMS) is key in many of the organizations’ strategy. However, in implementing KMS, the company may face variety of challenges that may make the overall project ineffective. This can be considered a failure. There are various reasons for failure such as this but some of the well-known reasons are

• Inadequate support from management and/or technical teams
• Inaccurate expectation due to limited understanding of KMS
• Wrong assessment of objective/needs of the organization and their mapping with KMS
• Insufficient quality management measures
• Low prioritization for the KMS in the organization

We can see that in many of these cases, the reason why KMS fails is internal and something that the organization can do about it. Due to this, if we feel that KMS is not doing headway we need to thoroughly assess our KMS situation and identify the root cause and the roadblocks. Then we need figure out solutions to the roadblocks and implement them. Only once these solutions have been implemented we should relaunch the KMS. The second time, we should also put a periodic assessment process or checking gate where we track the success/failure of KMS on a regular basis. This will help us be more proactive rather than reactive and will make sure that the next time there is higher chances of success.
