1. Self-actualization: Abraham Maslow believed that self-actualizing people tended to choose growth over security. In other words, they took healthy risks to expand their true potentials. Describe a time that you took a risk and felt that you grew as a result (remember this can be a result of a success or failure). How did the experience help you grow as a person?
2. The Authentic You: Think of a time when you found "your voice" or you felt very authentic. How did it make you feel? What aspects of yourself or the situation helped you be more authentic.

Self-actualization represents a concept derived from theory and, specifically, from the theory created by Self-actualization, represents growth of an individual toward fulfillment of the highest needs; those for meaning in life, in particular. Carl Rogers also created a theory implicating a “growth potential” whose aim was to integrate congruently the “real self” and the “ideal self” thereby cultivating the emergence of the fully functioning person. As a leader of humanistic psychology, Abraham approached the study of personality psychology by focusing on subjective experiences and free will. He was mainly concerned with an individual’s innate drive toward self-actualization—a state of fulfillment in which a person is achieving at his or her highest level of capability. positioned his work as a vital complement to that of Freud, saying: It is as if Freud supplied us the sick half of psychology and we must now fill it out with the healthy half.Most self had a great sense of awareness, maintaining a near-constant enjoyment and awe of life. They often described peak experiences during which they felt such an intense degree of satisfaction that they seemed to transcend themselves. They actively engaged in activities that would bring about this feeling of unity and meaningfulness.In the development of the self-concept, Rogers elevated the importance of unconditional positive regard, or unconditional love. People raised in an environment of unconditional positive regard, in which no preconceived conditions of worth are present, have the opportunity to fully actualize. When people are raised in an environment of conditional positive regard, in which worth and love are only given under certain conditions, they must match or achieve those conditions in order to receive the love or positive regard they yearn for.
