Scientific support article Continuous sulfur biotransformation in an anaerobic-anoxic sequential batch reactor involving sulfate reduction and denitrifying sulfide oxidization
Sodium lactate is used as carbon source to determine the amount of the lactic acid consumption, lactate is used as an energy source for ATP production and an electron source for the hydrogensulphde production from sulphate. Lactate is converted into pyruvate and then into acetyl-CoA, the acetyl-CoA is reduced into acetate producing ATP in the process. The electron released from the acetyl-CoA to acetate conversion are taken up by the hydrogen atom and the sulphate is reduced to hydrogen sulphide.
What is the role of sodium lactate and how is this compound metabolized by sulfate reducing...
10. Write a one-page summary of the attached paper? INTRODUCTION Many problems can develop in activated sludge operation that adversely affect effluent quality with origins in the engineering, hydraulic and microbiological components of the process. The real "heart" of the activated sludge system is the development and maintenance of a mixed microbial culture (activated sludge) that treats wastewater and which can be managed. One definition of a wastewater treatment plant operator is a "bug farmer", one who controls the aeration...
