QUESTION 1
To what extent can a non-human entity (such as a corporation) be considered to be a moral agent?
Here primarily we have to know about the term moral agent
Moral agent is a person having the ability to discern right from wrong and to be held accountable for his or her actions.
Here our discussion is about non human entity can be a moral agent or not.
As all the corporation have a separate legal entity from the individuals and the members of the company it can be treated as a artificial person other than the members of the organisation.
Hear the moral agent term refers to taking a decision or ability of taking a decision that an action is right or wrong when the person is holding responsible for the action taken place in the organisation.
The corporation has a responsibility to accountable and make a decision what is right and wrong in the actions of organisation.
the extent of the nonhuman entity or corporations as a moral agent he is still the action was decided right or wrong in the organisation is answerable on the specified action.
Explanation for this situation can be given with the help of an example.
For example we take the company of Volkswagen.
In Volkswagen there is a huge number of engineers who are working for the new designs and manufacturing of the automobiles.
if any mistake was taken place in the designing or manufacturing of the automobiles in the organisation send any car was released from the organisation without appropriate safety measures aur without an appropriate design and that car made harmful to the customers to the society due to the legs in designing of the automobile on manufacturing of the automobile.
The damage caused by that defect automobile from the Volkswagen company and the responsibility of the damage caused by that automobile should be taken by the Volkswagen organisation only but not any engineers who worked for the designing manufacturing of the automobile.
the organisation Volkswagen act as a moral agent still taking responsibility of the damage caused by the defect product came out from their organisation.
Even though that is a mistake of a small Number of persons in the organisation it will cause damage to the Goodwill of entire the Volkswagen company.
Volkswagen company has to take appropriate action against to the engineers who has worked for the design and manufacturing of the specific product.
Here Volkswagen company can blame those engineers who worked for the designing and manufacturing of the specific product.
Here the company acted as a moral agent from accepting the responsibility for the damage made by the specific defect product to the appropriate action taken against the engineers.
Sahir we have to understand that the entity or an artificial person itself cannot do right or wrong things. all the actions of the organisation and artificial persons are the actions of the members all the people in the organisation but all the responsibility of the actions of the members are to be taken by the artificial person.
If the members performs well then the organisation will get goodwill if the members of the directors made mistakes in the organisation lose its fame.
The organisation acts as a moral agent till the extent of accepting the responsibility of the act and taking the appropriate action against the person who was responsible for that harmful acts.
Conclusion corporate entities can act as a moral agent to the actions performed by the members of the organisation.
Sorry for the long explanation for clear and clarity explanation I just using an example in the solution.
If there is any doubts please mention in the comment box.
I hope, all the above and explanations are useful and helpful to you.
Thank you.
