Due to an unexpected solar event, the average temperature of the Earth decreased by 5 oC (~287 K to 282 K). Using the Wien Displacement Law, calculate the new lm for Earth. Considering the composition of the Earth’s atmosphere, do you think the Earth’s temperature would remain stable at 282 K or change over time? Explain.

Answer #1

Peak wavelength = Wien's displacement constant/average earth temperature (in kelvin)

Wien's displacement constant= 2898 um.K

Average earth temperature= 282 Kelvin

So peak wavelength will be = 2898/282 = 10.27 um( infrared radiation).

Increase in concentration of greenhouse gases in atmosphere led to increase in average temperature of earth.

    10. Write a one-page summary of the attached paper? INTRODUCTION Many problems can develop in activated sludge operation that adversely affect effluent quality with origins in the engineering, hydraulic and microbiological components of the process. The real "heart" of the activated sludge system is the development and maintenance of a mixed microbial culture (activated sludge) that treats wastewater and which can be managed. One definition of a wastewater treatment plant operator is a "bug farmer", one who controls the aeration...
